The Alberta Provincial Committee (APC) is the Alberta arm of the Air Cadet League of Canada — the civilian participant that works alongside the Canadian Armed Forces to deliver the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program to youth aged 12 to 18.
What we do
The Canadian Armed Forces provides training, uniforms, and staff through the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers organization; the League and its local sponsoring committees provide the community foundation — facilities, fundraising, volunteer screening, aircraft, and advocacy. In Alberta, the APC:
- Supports squadron sponsoring committees (SSCs) in more than 30 communities across the province
- Owns and manages the aircraft used in the Alberta gliding program, along with facilities including Olds-Netook Airport and Camp Wright
- Runs provincial fundraising initiatives like the Cash Calendar that put money directly into squadron programs
- Recognizes outstanding cadets and volunteers through provincial awards, scholarships, and the annual HART ceremony
How the program is organized
Understanding who does what saves everyone time:
- Squadrons deliver weekly training to cadets, run by Canadian Armed Forces staff (CIC officers) and civilian instructors.
- Squadron Sponsoring Committees (SSCs) are local volunteers — usually parents — who support their squadron's finances, facilities, and activities.
- The APC (this organization) supports SSCs provincially and manages province-wide assets and programs.
- The Air Cadet League of Canada is the national body, and CJCR/DND is the military side of the program.
