Royal Canadian Air Cadets is one of Canada's largest youth programs — and one of its best-kept secrets. It's open to all youth aged 12 to 18, and it's free to join.
What cadets do
- Fly. Air cadets get real aviation training, including familiarization flights and — for those who pursue it — glider and private pilot scholarships that put you at the controls before most people have a driver's licence.
- Lead. Cadets progressively take charge of their own squadron's training, developing real leadership skills employers and universities notice.
- Explore. Summer training, survival exercises, marksmanship, biathlon, effective speaking, music, and citizenship travel across Canada.
What it costs
Membership is free. Uniforms are provided. Some squadrons collect a small annual assessment set by their local sponsoring committee, and optional activities may have modest costs — no one is turned away over cost.
How to join
- Find your nearest squadron — there are squadrons in more than 30 Alberta communities.
- Submit the online application form for the squadron you wish to join. The squadron will reach out to confirm a date for you to complete your registration in person.
- Bring proof of age and health card details; the squadron staff will walk you through registration.
